History

Moss Adams has served clients since 1913. While we have history, our direction and focus is anything but traditional.

  • 1913: John J. McIntosh opens an accounting firm in Seattle to support the area's lumber industry.
  • 1919: Albert Moss and Edwin Adams join the firm.
  • 1920s: The firm becomes regional when it establishes offices in Portland, San Francisco, and southern Washington.
  • 1934: The firm is renamed Charles S. Cowan & Company.
  • 1939: Charles S. Cowan dies and the firm name changes to Moss Adams & Co.
  • 1962: The firm opens offices in northern and southern California.
  • 1982-2004: Bob Bunting serves as President and Chairman.
  • 1985: Moss Adams expands on the industry practice group concept and targets midsized businesses in specific industries.
  • 2004: Rick Anderson succeeds Bob Bunting as Moss Adams Chairman. Chris Schmidt, Orange County. Office Managing Partner, becomes the firm's president.
  • 2005: Moss Adams expands into New Mexico with an office in Albuquerque.
  • 2007: Moss Adams expands into Arizona with an office in Phoenix.
  • 2008: Moss Adams enters the year reaching its MA 3000 milestone.
