Who Should Attend?

Non-technical LEC management and staff with a desire to better understand network terminology and design, and the services provided by their companies. This is an excellent introductory course for new employees, or a refresher course for management and staff that require an understanding networks and technical terminology, but do not deal with them on a daily basis.

What You'll Learn

Telecom Networks for Non-Technical Staff is designed to provide descriptions of both voice and data networks basics in an easy to understand and interesting manner. The course provides a historical perspective of telecommunications networks and services, and focuses in on today’s changing technology. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how these networks fit together and for the technical “jargon” used in the industry.

The goal is to enhance attendees’ job performance by better understanding telecommunications networks and improving communication with company technical staff.

Voice Networks

The course looks at the history of the telephone network, to establish a basis for how we got to today’s rapidly changing environment. It then shifts to current technology and equipment that make up today’s public switched telephone network, including the services provided over this network. Finally, the course looks at evolving technologies that are likely to change the future of the telephone network. Topics of current interest will include: interconnection, phantom traffic, VoIP, wireless termination, and more.

Data Networks

The course looks at the history of data networks, with a primary focus on the Internet, to establish a basis for ongoing changes in data communications. It then shifts to current technology and equipment that make up today’s data communications networks, including the services provided over these networks. Finally, the course looks at evolving technologies that are likely to change the future of data networks. Topics of current interest will include: broadband, DSL, fiber to the premises, virtual NXX, and others.
