Leonard R. Sanchez, CPA, Elected as NASBA's Director-at-Large

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 28, 2007)—Leonard R. Sanchez, CPA, of Moss Adams LLP, Albuquerque, New Mexico, was elected as a Director-at-Large of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) for 2007-2010. The election took place at NASBA’s 100th Annual Meeting in Maui, Hawaii. NASBA’s mission is to enhance the effectiveness of state boards of accountancy in meeting their regulatory responsibilities.  NASBA’s headquarters are located in Nashville, Tennessee.

A member of NASBA since 1993, Mr. Sanchez is a former Southwest Regional Director and has served on numerous NASBA committees including the CPA Mobility Task Force, Administration and Finance Committee, International Qualifications Appraisal Board (IQAB), Long-Term Strategy Committee, Examinations Committee, Strategies Initiative Committee, Ethics Committee and Nominating Committee. He is also a Founding Board Member of NASBA’s Center for the Public Trust.

Mr. Sanchez is also an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and serves on its International Qualifications Examination Committee. Additionally, he is a member, and former Vice Chair and Chair, of the New Mexico State Board of Public Accountancy and a member of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, the Association of CPA Financial Planners, the Institute of Management Accountants, the New Mexico Estate Planning Council and the New Mexico Society of CPAs.

Locally, Mr. Sanchez’s civic involvement includes membership in the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Forum, Governor Bill Richardson’s Roundtable and Finance Committee, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the New Mexico First.

On November 9, 2007, Mr. Sanchez received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants and has earned many other honorable distinctions throughout his career. In 2000,  he was named one of the 2,000 Accountants on Call/Institute of Management “Financial Executive of the Year” for the IMA’s Rocky Mountain Council and was awarded the Outstanding CPA in Public Practice and Community Service Awards from the New Mexico Society of CPAs in 1994 and 1984, respectively.

Mr. Sanchez is a tax partner with Moss Adams LLP (formerly Neff + Ricci LLP) and boasts more than 23 years of Big Four Firm experience (20 years with KPMG). His areas of expertise are closely-held businesses, financial planning, and income tax planning. He is also a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a designation of the AICPA, awarded to CPAs that have substantial experience in six financial planning disciplines. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, he and his wife, Anne, have three children.
